AIGA

The Italian Association of Applied and Environmental Geology

promotes and organises congresses, conferences and other scientific meetings, both of a national and international character;

directly constitutes, or participates in, study commissions on general and local problems;

provides, upon request, advice to Ministries, Bodies, Committees and Commissions, including those of an interdisciplinary nature;

promotes the publication and dissemination of research results of an applied geological and environmental nature.

National Council of Geologists – Consiglio Nazionale dei Geologi

The National Council of Geologists is the institutional representation body on the national level of the interests of the professional category of geologists.

The Council, by specific legislative provision, is a public law body supervised by the Ministry of Justice.

The institutional tasks of the CNG include, among others: the role of second degree judiciary in appeals and complaints by members against the decisions of the Councils of the Order; the expression of opinions, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, on proposals for laws and regulations concerning the profession; the function of government referent in professional matters.

The National Council of Geologists plays a role of primary importance in promoting, developing and enhancing the role of the geologist in order to increase its impact in the society in which it operates and is committed to pursuing growth objectives of the profession at the service of the community and an ever greater recognition , on the part of political and social forces, of the driving role of the geologist in the processes of evolution and change.

National Council of Italian Engineers (CNI)

The National Council of Italian Engineers (CNI) is the institutional national body representing the professional category of the Italian engineers.
CNI is a non-economic public institution, established in 1944 and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice that monitors the professions and controls the adoption of the provided regulations.

The institutional commitment of CNI includes, among others, following tasks:

to express opinions concerning decisions made by the Disciplinary Committees of each local Register of Engineers relevant to appeals and complaints;

to issue legal opinions, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, concerning legislative or regulation proposals about the profession of engineer;

to act as advisory body towards the Governmental, Institutional and Supervisory Authorities, which deal with the profession of engineer. CNI plays a significant role in: promoting, developing and safeguarding the figure of the Engineer in the society;

providing the Continuing Professional Development and ensuring the quality of the professional performances. Activities and objectives of CNI give high importance to the following topics: safety and security of people and goods, environment protection, safeguarding of the natural resources, sustainable development, scientific and technological progress, and enhancement of the intellectual work.

SIG

The Società Italiana Gallerie is an association that has been disseminating know-how in the field of tunnels and large underground works for 40 years. Established in 1974, it is an association with open cultural purposes which takes care of the promotion, coordination and dissemination of studies and research in the field and art of tunnel construction and large underground works.

Its activity is aimed at organizing conferences, congresses, courses, technical visits to the main construction sites of underground works under construction as well as the printing and dissemination of technical-scientific publications and the coordination of members' participation in international conferences.

There are currently over 800 members, representing bodies, public clients, universities, professional firms, engineering companies, general and specialized construction companies as well as the industrial sector of the sector.

It joins the ITA - International Tunneling Association - as a "Nation Member" representing Italy, participating with its delegates in the annual work of the assembly and in the activities of the working groups.

On 27 April 2016, during the ITA General Assembly in San Francisco, the Società Italiana Gallerie won the bid to host the WTC 2019 in Naples which was then held from 3 to 9 May. The Congress entitled "Tunnels and Underground cities: engineering and innovation meet Archaeology, Architecture and Art" was an unforgettable technical and social event which saw more than 2700 participants from all over the world; 730 papers selected from more than 1000 abstracts received and 230 exhibitors.
